This year we have many
things planned for the
Sciences. We started off the
year with the Grade 9’s attending a combined Science / Environmental -Outdoor
Education fieldtrip,
RiverWatch.
We will continue with the workshops offered by the
University of Alberta Engineering
students through the program
DiscoverE as
well as a half-day Science
Olympics
for the Grade 7’s from
University of Alberta Science
students.
Grade
7 students will also participate in our annual Science Fair
in May.
This year we are
excited to offer a new option for the Grade 8’s and 9’s:
Science Exploration.
These students will engage in a series of bridge building projects.
We will also be viewing selected IMAX movies at
TELUS World of Science
as well as attending their travelling exhibits. Students will
also engage in science and Youth Apprenticeship Strategies related
activities such as CO2
cars,
rocketry, cardboard boat races,
and roboticsin other option
classes. We look forward to an exciting year!
. . .the grade nines are being addressed by
representatives from high school. The message to the students is
that they must keep up their grades as their course selection will
be predicated by their marks in March.
We look forward to your participation and
involvement in your child’s education and success.
Plan to attend the Public Meeting to
consider the closure of St. Mark School. Please see page 13 of the
newsletter for more information...
Next step: ECSD trustees will consider the
alternatives and make an announcement on whether or not the school will remain
open. The meeting is on February 14 at 4:00 PM.
New families will receive their passwords for
PowerSchool to enable them to monitor their child’s progress and
attendance, and communicate with the school. Parents will be notified when their passwords will be available.
Edmonton Catholic School Board of
Trustees has voted to reopen the school closure consultation process. ECSD District Planning, St.
Mark School Parent Advisory Council, feeder schools and the
local community are still working together to see whether St. Mark
can remain
open as a viable junior high school in this community.
